A group of Room 9B friends used the conversational Spanish they learned to make this video, El Amigo Nuevo (The New Friend).

Room 9A friends had fun making (and eating!) arroz mexicano!

Room 9B learned the names of their favorite sports and activities.  We made up a game with body movements for each one.  Watch Los Deportes (Sports) and see if you can guess what they are.

Room 9A decided that they wanted to learn how to order their favorite food at a Mexican restaurant.  First we made paper models of the food, then we learned how to write and say the words en español.  Watch the video La Comida Mexicana to see what our friends love to eat!

Second grade has been studying fossils in science class! Here are some things they’ve been learning (in their own words):

We played a fossil guessing game.

I learned that there are lots of different types of fossils. There are trace, resin, imprint, and body.

Did you know that a fossil has to be 10,000 years old to be considered a fossil?

We made shell imprint fossils.

We pretended to be paleontologists.

We had to find a pretend fossil and cut it open to find the fossil inside. It was fun :)

Room 9B’s Animales inspired by Romero Britto

español, marzo 2012

Children in Rooms 9A and 9B learned animal names by creating art, Romero Britto style. Here’s a video of 9A’s animales.

ROOM 9B

Here’s what Second Graders did to learn what the letter E sounds like en español:

1. We did some research to find a word with a goodE sound. We looked in picture dictionaries, around the Spanish classroom, and on the computer.

2. We made a list of what we needed to create a model for the word we chose.

3. We made a video of the words!

Second grade students designed inventions incorporating two or more simple machines and presented them to their families during science class!
