español, mayo 2012

First Graders brought their furry friends to school on Animal day, so we made name tags for them in class.

Room 4 friends are writing stories in español!  They’ve just chosen their characters and setting, and are now busy with their storyboards.  They’ll share their stories by making a book, skit, puppet show, or movie, and we’ll post them as soon as they’re ready!

Here are some sentences you may see in their projects:

Hola, cómo estás, muy bien, y tú, cómo te llamas, me llamo ___, mucho gusto, quieres jugar, vamonos

First Grade friends have been practicing conversational Spanish.  Watch the video; you’ll hear:

Hola.  Hello.

¿Cómo estás?  How are you?

Muy bien, gracias.  Very well, thank you.

¿y tu?  How about you?

¿Cómo te llamas?  What’s your name?

Me llamo ___.  My name is ___.

Mucho gusto.  Nice to meet you.

¡Hasta luego!  See you later.

Kindergarten and First Grade turn a rectangle into all sorts of things.  For a list of the objects, click here.

To learn the sound of the vowel E in Spanish, each Room 4 friend looked for a word with E, and then created a model of that word.  Here’s a list of the words the boys and girls found: First Grade E Words

In honor of The Big Pumpkin, Kindergarteners made calabazas GRANDES and calabazas pequeñas in Spanish class.

First Graders, who were exploring spiders in Room 4, learned that they´re called arañas, and that a spiderweb is la telaraña.

In Spanish, friends from Rooms 9A and 9B created árboles to show the different seasons: el otoño (autumn), el invierno (winter), la primavera (spring), and el verano (summer).

Room 4 had fun making arañas in Spanish!

First grade has finished planting tulips for the Journey North project (to learn more, visit http://www.learner.org/jnorth/maps/tulips_spring2011.html).

We have started learning about the states of matter.  Check out the beautiful liquid art!
